Malaga on alert for highs of 38C – before ‘terral wind’ arrives ahead of SCORCHING weekend

Malaga has been issued with a warning for soaring temperatures in the Antequera region, where highs are set to hit a scorching 38C on Monday.

The alert remains in place until 9pm but things are expected to ease slightly on Tuesday – at least for a day.

While Tuesday sees no active alerts for the province, the heat isn’t going anywhere. By Wednesday, warnings will expand to cover parts of the semi-inland coast as westerly winds sweep in, pushing mercury levels to 35C at Málaga Airport, according to Aemet’s Malaga director, Jesus Riesco.

Antequera is looking at tropical temperatures of 28C overnight, with nearby Ronda barely cooler at 26C.

Tuesday brings a noticeable drop in temperatures. Antequera will dip from 38C to 31C, with overnight lows plummeting to a more bearable 19C. Coastal areas, however, will remain steady with little change.

On Wednesday, the infamous terral wind, though not in full force, is expected to make a semi-appearance.

It’s a warm, inland breeze that usually sends temperatures soaring, but this time, according to Riesco, the heat won’t ‘shoot up to 40 degrees’ just yet.

By Thursday, the heat begins to climb again. Antequera is set to sizzle at 35C, while Malaga capital will see highs of 33C.

Marbella will remain just shy of the 30C mark, and overnight lows inland will dip below 20C – but coastal areas, not so lucky, will remain above that threshold.

Friday offers a slight dip province-wide 33C inland and 29C on the coast, but brace yourselves for the weekend.

Saturday will see temperatures breach the 30C mark across the board, with Ronda and Antequera eyeing highs of 35C. Marbella and Velez-Malaga will hover around 30C, and Malaga capital will nudge 31C.

Sunday looks even hotter. Expect highs of 32C in both Malaga and Marbella, with forecasters warning: this weekend’s going to be a scorcher.

In Sevilla, temperatures are expected to reach 43C, on what could be the hottest day of the year so far in many areas.
