A vehicle ploughed through the central reservation on Saturday morning, spilling into oncoming traffic and triggering a multi-car pile-up.
The incident unfolded in San Pedro de Alcantara at around 7.30am at kilometre 1,052 of the coastal motorway, heading in the direction of Malaga, according to Andalucia’s 112 Emergency Services.
The death was reported by local newspaper AZ Costa del Sol, citing sources from the emergency services.
One of the vehicles involved somehow leapt the concrete median and careened into the opposite side of the carriageway.
Emergency services launched a full-scale response. Firefighters from Marbella, traffic cops, paramedics from 061, and road maintenance crews were all scrambled to the scene.

Initial calls to 112 reported that several people may have been injured or even trapped inside their vehicles, though details remain scant.
Authorities closed the Malaga-bound stretch of the A-7 for two hours, diverting traffic through the San Pedro roundabout.
