An urgent investigation is underway after a man was found tied up on the outskirts of Malaga city at the weekend.

According to Guardia Civil sources, he claims he and a female friend were abducted while walking on a road in Benahavis.

The town, near Marbella, is among the richest in Spain and is filled with millionaire residents.

While details of the investigation are being kept under wraps, police sources said they received a call at around 9pm on Sunday from a concerned driver.

He reported seeing a distressed man on the A-7054 road who claimed he had just escaped a kidnapping.

The alleged victim later told authorities he had been snatched by a group of hooded attackers on the road, tied up, and later released near Cortijo Jurado on the outskirts of Malaga, according to reports in Diario Sur.

Even more troubling, the victim claimed he hadn’t been alone. He told officers he was kidnapped alongside a female friend, who, he said, is still missing.

During the ordeal, the man said he was assaulted by his captors. The Guardia Civil is now trying to piece together what happened and determine whether the incident points to a targeted abduction or something else entirely.

Emergency services quickly passed the alert on to the Policia Nacional, and both forces are said to be coordinating efforts.

The investigation continues.
