A British expat has sounded the alarm over ‘fake car attendants’ on the Costa del Sol.
Every summer, men across the coast stand in car parks or along streets next to empty spaces.

When drivers go to park, they begin waving them in, as if they are acting in an official capacity or have been asked to assist.
They then ask the driver for money, either as a tip, or falsely claiming that they need to pay.
Drivers are not obliged to pay any person at any car park – only machines, when applicable.
In a warning on an expat Facebook forum this week, one Brit wrote: ‘The fake car park attendants have started their rounds again, today in San Pedro and at Playa de Cala Sardina.
‘More importantly I’m pretty sure the one at Playa de Cala Sardina used a signal jamming device to block me locking the car when I walked away.
‘After the same happened at Mercadona near Burger King last year when the car was burgled I’ve got the audible lock alarm set now, so when it was clear I wasn’t leaving until it was locked I was finally able to lock it. No way it was a battery or car issue.
‘Just be aware and always double check your car is locked.’
Scammers are typically out in force across the most popular holiday destinations over the summer.
Tourists are advised to be on alert and aware of their belongings at all times.
