This is the horrific moment a dead dog was found chained to concrete blocks in a lake in Madrid.

One man has been arrested and a woman is under investigation following the heartbreaking discovery in the town of Arganda del Rey.

According to the Guardia Civil, the pair are facing animal abuse charges after the dog’s corpse was found by a fisherman in the Sureste Regional Park.

The male dog was wearing a harness, which had been chained to two concrete blocks to ensure he would sink in the Las Esperillas lagoon.

A Guardia Civil patrol from Rivas Vaciamadrid and Fire Department personnel were mobilised after receiving a call to remove a deceased dog from the area.

The suspect is a 53-year-old man who was arrested as the person responsible for the drowning, while the other suspect is 46 years old, police said.

Footage shared by the Guardia Civil shows the animal being pulled out of the water.

The clip, uploaded to X, has sparked a furious response from the local population.

Many called for the perpetrators to suffer the same fate as the dog.

One said: ‘Deliberately killing an animal should carry a prison sentence. What kind of people are they, doing evil just for the fun of it?’

Another wrote: ‘Poor thing! May life treat them like they treated their dog!’
