A four-year-old British boy has died while swimming in a hotel pool in Tenerife.
The child was pulled out of the water by lifeguards shortly before 5pm on Thursday.
The 112 emergency hotline received an alert about a boy being rescued from the water and suffering a cardiac arrest.
The tragic incident occurred at an unnamed hotel on Avenida Jose Miguel Galvan Bello, in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona, on the southern tip of the island.
The area is just a few kilometres west from Tenerife South airport and is popular with British holidaymakers.

The identity or nationality of the child has not yet been released by the authorities.
A Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) coordinator nurse gave instructions over the phone to locate a defibrillator in the area and begin resuscitation procedures.
Lifeguards from the facility and various individuals who identified themselves as doctors participated in the rescue effort.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene continued performing advanced CPR without success, confirming the child’s death.
