A series of freak hail storms have sparked chaos across parts of southern Spain.
The weather phenomenon was witnessed across Almeria, Murcia, Granada and parts of the Costa Blanca on Thursday – including Benidorm.
All the aforementioned areas had been placed under a yellow alert for heavy rain and ‘potential hail’ by state weather agency Aemet.
In footage shared on X, the town of Librilla, in Murcia, was visibly among the worst affected.
In just half an hour, 37 litres of hail per metre squared is believed to have fallen on the municipality.
The sudden onslaught provoked flash flooding, with clips showing how streets were suddenly turned into rivers.
One video showed the water filling up a street as the hail continued to lash down.
The majority of the weather alerts were deactivated by 8pm on Thursday, with conditions expected to calm down on Friday.
