Jasmine Harman has recalled witnessing a ‘terrible’ accident while taking her children to the beach on the Costa del Sol this week.

The A Place In The Sun star, 49, said in a video shared on Instagram that she was leaving a restaurant along the beach promenade when she ‘heard a scream.’

The Channel 4 presenter said she saw a woman on the floor ‘unconscious’ and ‘bleeding from her head’ after having been struck by an electric bike – which she took a picture of and showed in the Instagram clip.

Jasmine said motorised vehicles should ‘100% be banned’ from pedestrianised pathways ‘because of incidents like this.’

Captioning the video, she said the woman was safely back home with her family.

She wrote: ‘I’m unsure what the rules are back in the UK but riding an electric/battery/motorised bike or scooter in a pedestrian walk way and not the road seems absurd to me?!

‘That could have been a lot worse! If it had been a child playfully skipping down the path it might not have had the same outcome.

‘Maybe I’m overthinking it but it was a really horrible incident that could easily have been avoided.’

In Estepona, where Jasmine lives, and as in the rest of Spain, e-bike laws generally align with EU regulations.

E-bikes are considered bicycles with electric assistance, provided their motor power doesn’t exceed 250W and the assistance cuts off at 25 km/h.

Riders must be at least 14 years old, wear a helmet, and have lights front and back. Riding on pavements or pedestrian areas is mostly prohibited.

Generally, across Spain, e-bikes are not permitted on beach promenades unless the they are specially equipped or the rider has special permission.
