Two young students have been praised for their honesty after handing in a lost wallet containing more than €1,300 in cash, allowing police to return it to its rightful owner.
The pair are aged 19 and 21 and are from Ardales, a charming and humble inland village in the province of Malaga.
They found the wallet in the street while studying in Malaga ctiy and immediately contacted the Policia Local.
Officers were dispatched to collect the wallet from the students’ accommodation.
Inside, they found €1,332.50 in cash, along with personal documents including a credit card, driving licence and health card.
Police from the accident and investigation unit were able to identify and contact the owner – a 42-year-old man – who was asked to attend a police station.
There, he was reunited with his wallet and all its contents.
The man thanked both the students and officers, explaining he had no idea how he had lost it.
He added that the money was intended to pay for repairs to a company van used in a business that supports people with disabilities.
