Seven people have been injured after part of a ceiling collapsed inside a hotel restaurant in Benidorm on Sunday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 2.20pm at the Hotel Poseidon (pictured above), when a section of an interior structure fell in the dining area, leaving several guests with injuries.
Emergency services treated five men and two women at the scene, all suffering minor injuries.
Among those hurt were an eight-year-old child and a 78-year-old man, both of whom were discharged on-site after initial medical checks.
The remaining injured, aged between 33 and 80, were taken to nearby hospitals for further examination.
The incident triggered a major response, with multiple units from Spain’s emergency medical services, including Servicio de Ayuda Médica Urgente, deployed alongside basic life support ambulances and teams from Cruz Roja.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
Municipal technicians have been sent to the hotel to assess the damage and determine what led to the incident.
Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities as investigations continue.
