A major labour dispute at logistics giant DHL is set to disrupt beer supplies across Sevilla – including Cruzcampo – just as the city heads into its busiest party season.
Union Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) has confirmed an indefinite strike will begin on Easter Monday after talks with DHL, the subcontractor responsible for logistics at Heineken’s Sevilla operations, collapsed.
The walkout could severely impact distribution during the upcoming Feria de Abril, as well as other local festivals across the province this month.
Jesus Perez, a CCOO union delegate at DHL’s logistics operation in the Heineken factory in Sevilla, said negotiations had reached a dead end following a mediation meeting earlier this week.
‘The company is maintaining an unbreakable red line on economic matters and is only proposing points that workers are already entitled to by law and established case law,’ he said.
With no agreement reached, workers have called an open-ended strike starting on Easter Monday. Initial action will include two-hour stoppages per shift, escalating pressure on the supply chain at a critical time.
Around 100 workers are expected to take part, based across DHL’s two key logistics centres serving Heineken in Sevilla – the main facility in Mairena del Alcor and an auxiliary site in the La Isla industrial estate in Dos Hermanas.
The union has warned of a ‘direct and severe impact’ on operations, saying the disruption could ‘seriously affect’ beer distribution during one of the busiest periods of the year for hospitality and consumption in Andalucia.
