Panic erupted at a busy Costa del Sol health centre on Tuesday after part of the ceiling suddenly gave way, injuring patients waiting inside.
At least three people were hurt in the waiting room at the San Miguel health centre in Torremolinos at around 2pm.
Five people were inside at the time of the incident when the ceiling came crashing down without warning.
Two were treated on site for bruising, while a child was taken to Malaga’s Materno Infantil Hospital for further checks after being assessed by paediatricians.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown.
Health officials confirmed the incident left a gaping hole of around five metres, but insisted the centre has remained open and continues to operate.
While damage is being assessed and repairs begin, patients are being redirected through a side entrance as normal service continues.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over building safety, with investigations now underway into how part of the ceiling could suddenly give way in a functioning medical facility.
