Residents forced to flee their homes during the recent floods in Andalucia will be entitled to €150 per day in compensation, according to measures now published in Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE).
The aid package – approved by the Council of Ministers last week – is aimed at the worst-affected households and carries a budget of around €110 million, coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior.
Separate support schemes are also being rolled out for farmers, fishermen, the self-employed, small businesses and shops.
It comes after the Junta de Andalucia officially declared the carousel of Atlantic storms and its devastating impacts a natural disaster this week.
€150 per day for those evacuated
In municipalities where evacuations were ordered by authorities – more than 11,000 people in Andalucia – residents can claim €150 for each day they were unable to return home.
Those displaced for extended periods in towns such as Grazalema, Jerez or parts of Cordoba province could receive sums approaching €10,000, depending on how long they were away.
Payments will apply only to officially registered residents who can prove their displacement.
Up to €60,480 for property damage
In addition to daily evacuation payments, direct grants will be available to cover damage to homes and belongings. Applicants must prove ownership of the property and document the losses.
Compensation levels are set as follows:
- Total destruction of main residence: €60,480
- Structural damage to main residence: €41,280
- Non-structural damage: €20,640
- Damage or loss of household contents: €10,320
- Damage to shared elements in apartment buildings: €36,896
Coverage for damaged contents includes essential household goods and items needed for daily life, including equipment for remote work such as computers.
The government says the package is designed to provide immediate relief to families who have lost homes or possessions in what has been described as one of the most disruptive flooding episodes in recent years.
