This is the dramatic moment firefighters worked for 10 hours to rescue a man stuck in the mud in Ronda.
The 53-year-old had become trapped in the thick mud up to his waist along a remote stretch of the Guadiaro River in Las Buitreras, Gaucin.
He was only saved thanks to a passerby, who happened to see him and raised the alarm at around 3pm on Saturday.
The area is a rugged and hard-to-reach spot that is popular with experienced walkers or hikers.
Emergency services from the Agencia de Emergencias de Andalucia were alerted and a major rescue operation was launched.
Firefighters from the Provincial Consortium, Guardia Civil officers, Local Police, paramedics and Civil Protection volunteers were all deployed to the scene.
But the difficult terrain made access extremely complicated. Crews battled through the night in a painstaking operation that lasted from 3.30pm until 1.30am.
Finally, in the early hours of Sunday, the man was freed from the mud.
He was treated at the scene for symptoms of hypothermia before being transferred to the Serrania de Ronda hospital for further care.
