A 57-year-old man has died after being struck by a train in Malaga, emergency services have confirmed.
Rail traffic between Malaga and Los Prados was brought to a halt on Wednesday afternoon after a Cercanías C-2 commuter train struck the unnamed victim, according to rail infrastructure operator Adif.
The incident occurred at around 5pm near the Los Prados stop, roughly 600 metres from the local recycling centre, emergency services confirmed.
Both tracks were closed while police and emergency crews attended the scene.
It remains unclear why the victim was on the tracks at the time of the collision.
Officers from the Policia Nacional have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances.
The collision caused significant disruption to rail traffic, with C-2 commuter services – which connect Malaga with Alora – suspended, along with several mid-distance trains, leaving services stopped at stations along the route.
Passengers were advised to check for updates as services remained affected while emergency and investigative work continued.
The investigation continues.
