A young father was saved just in time while attempting to take his own life in Malaga after ‘losing everything’ on failed cryptocurrency investments, it has emerged.

The incident occurred by the A-45 Las Pedrizas motorway on Christms Eve, close to the El Agujero reservoir.

The alarm was raised by a lorry driver who drove by and saw a man standing on a 20-metre bridge.

He flagged down another driver who happened to be an off-duty local police officer, who immediately made his way to the scene.

When the officer arrived, the man had already hanged himself from the bridge using a cable and was suspended in mid-air.

Acting without hesitation, the policeman physically lifted him by the armpits, taking his full weight to prevent him from dying.

Once he managed to pull him back to safety, the officer removed the cable from his neck and began first-aid and resuscitation manoeuvres while emergency services were contacted.

An ambulance from the 061 emergency service arrived later than usual due to the heavy demand on services across Malaga at the time.

Additional Local Police patrols attended the scene to assist. Once calm, the man explained that mounting financial pressure had driven him to despair.

He was later transferred to a hospital in Málaga for medical and psychological assessment.
