A major drug trafficking ring has been caught with never-before-seen heroin pills in Sevilla province.
The Guardia Civil and Policia Nacional dismantled what they described as the most active criminal organisation involved in narcotics and tobacco smuggling in the Ecija region.
The operation took place in the municipality of La Luisiana and resulted in seven arrests.
During the raids, officers seized 2.1 kilos of cocaine and 67 grams of heroin presented in tablet form – a format police said has never before been detected in the province of Sevilla.
They said it was designed to make the drug more appealing and easier to consume.
The investigation began in September, following intelligence pointing to a highly active drug-dealing hotspot.
Despite the group’s security measures and the complexity of the location, officers maintained discreet and continuous surveillance, allowing them to identify all members of the organisation, their operating methods and logistical bases.

With sufficient evidence gathered, judicial authorities authorised searches at several properties in La Luisiana, leading to the dismantling of the group’s main storage and distribution hub, as well as two indoor marijuana grow operations.
In addition to cocaine and heroin, officers confiscated:
- 2.89 kilos of hashish
- 36.3 grams of marijuana, plus 295 grams of buds
- 495 marijuana plants in an advanced stage of flowering
- 1,073 packets of smuggled tobacco
- 75 doses of Viagra, a medication whose sale is restricted within the EU
Police confirmed that the heroin tablets represented a new distribution method in the province, aimed at simplifying both consumption and trafficking.
Authorities said the operation has successfully dismantled one of the most active drug sales points in the Ecija area.
