A 28-year-old man has been found dead near a camping site on the Costa del Sol.
The grisly discovery was made on Saturday morning beside the N-340 road between the coastal settlements of Valle-Niza and Almayate (Velez-Malaga).
Emergency services were alerted at 8.12am after a passer-by called 112 to report a body lying close to the road.
The man was found on the hard shoulder next to the N-340, around 500 metres before the entrance to a campsite, near the Jaral watchtower.
The Policia Nacional, Guardia Civil and paramedics attended the scene but could only confirm the man’s death.
A court-appointed funeral service later carried out the formal removal of the body in line with standard judicial procedure.
Investigators are currently working on the hypothesis that the man may have died following an accidental fall from a nearby cliff.
The stretch of coastline where the body was found includes unurbanised footpaths, steep drops and areas that are difficult to access.
According to police sources, there are no immediate signs of criminal activity, and the incident is being treated as either an accident or a voluntary act, pending the results of an autopsy.
The coastal section between Almayate and Valle-Niza, crossed by the old N-340, is known for its cliffs and informal walking routes and is frequently used by hikers and walkers, particularly at weekends.
