A British father and daughter have sounded the alarm after falling prey to a signature scam on the Costa del Sol.
Cara Matthews Stevens said she was walking with her father in the expat hotspot of La Duquesa on Sunday morning when they were both targeted.
She said it was at about 11.30 am when ‘it felt like a bird has messed over both myself and my father.’
Cara added: ‘A man approached from behind, mid 50s, smartly dressed in a tshirt, shorts, cap, an iPhone in a holder around his neck, also carrying a leaflet or map, he showed us to the toilets in the Castillo entrance and helped with tissues to clean us down.
‘We left and carried on walking towards the port, my Dad then received notification on his phone that some fraudulent transactions had been made and to contact his bank.
‘He called the bank and was advised that three lots of money had tried to be taken. We though he had scanned the card, however it turns out, the man had removed my dad’s phone from his pocket, taken the cards in the wallet and put the phone back in my dad’s pocket.’

She added: ‘He had obviously sprayed us with something to make us think it was a bird messing on us.
‘Please spread the word so no one has to go through the same and worse, this man needs catching!
‘We are always very alert and aware and this man is very good at what he does, luckily no valuables were taken or cash.’
Cara said they have reported the crime to the Guardia Civil and will be making a full statement.
