A forest fire that broke out in Malaga’s Valle del Genal, near the historic city of Ronda, has been brought under control.
The inferno was first reported in the small town of Parauta in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency crews from Andalucia’s wildfire response service, Infoca, began battling the flames in the area of Cortijo El Navazo at around 2am.
Firefighters worked through the night to contain the flames, with seven ground crews, five fire engines, a specialist brigade, four operations technicians, an environmental agent, a medical team and a mobile weather and environment unit sent to the site.
As daylight broke, aerial resources were called in to reinforce efforts. These include five helicopters – one heavy, three medium and one light – as well as four water-bombing planes that refill on land, two large amphibious aircraft and a dedicated coordination plane.
By 6pm, INFOCA said the fire had been brought under control after a long day of difficult work.
The rugged Valle del Genal, located in the Serranía de Ronda, is known for its thick forests and can be difficult terrain for firefighting operations.
