A powerful explosion has ripped through a bar-restaurant in Madrid’s Vallecas district, causing a partial collapse of the building and leaving at least 24 people injured, three of them in serious condition.

The blast occurred around 3pm at Mis Tesoros, located on Calle Manuel Maroto.

Emergency services said the injured were treated on site by teams from Summa 112 and Sammur-Protectión Civil, before being taken to nearby hospitals.

Some 17 fire crews from Madrid were deployed to the scene.

Firefighters worked to clear debris and stabilise the building, while National and Local Police secured the area and diverted traffic.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion.

The incident has shaken one of Madrid’s busiest working-class neighbourhoods, with residents reporting hearing a loud bang that was followed by clouds of dust and people rushing into the street.
