Sevilla has cancelled two further concerts amid fears of an avian flu outbreak at one of its major tourist attractions.
The two concerts in question are from the Noches del Alcazar series, held at the Real de Alcazar palace in the heart of the Andalucia capital.
The events were due to be held in the gardens of the site, which have been closed since last Friday after a number of dead birds were found there.
While awaiting a formal health protocol from the Junta’s Department of Health, the city council confirmed on Tuesday that the performances scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday nights would be suspended.
For now, events from Thursday onwards remain unaffected.
Although the gardens were closed days ago, the Alcázar waited until Tuesday afternoon to officially announce the cancellation of the Miguelo Delgado Organ Trio and Rubito Hijo concerts, originally set for Tuesday and Wednesday evening.
The organisers have stated that ticket refunds will be processed in the coming days and will be returned to the same card used for purchase.
There is still no confirmed date for the gardens’ reopening, but shows scheduled from Thursday onwards are currently going ahead as planned. Tickets are still available through the official website.
Both the Department of Health and the City Council stress that the chances of bird flu spreading to humans remain very low.
However, as a precaution, parks where outbreaks were first detected – including Tamarguillo, the Alcázar Gardens, and Miraflores – have been closed to the public. Other parks such as María Luisa and Los Príncipes remain open.
