This August is on track to be the hottest ever recorded in Spain, experts have warned.
The country is currently locked in an unbroken stretch of extreme heat that meteorologists say has no precedent in Spain’s climate history.
Data from state weather agency Aemet shows no other August has seen such sustained high temperatures between the same dates.

The worst day so far hit on Tuesday, which saw highs in Andalucia reach 45C, sparking multiple red alerts.
It was officially the hottest day of the summer and year and the highest August 12 readings since records began.
Across the country, three weather stations topped 45C, 62 stations passed 42C, and 165 stations broke 40C.
‘We have never seen anything like this for this time of year,’ an AEMET source said.
It comes as forecasters warn August 16 and 17 could be the hottest for those dates since data began.
And if the extreme heat stretches into Monday, Spain will have effectively baked under dangerous temperatures for the majority of the month.
The relentless highs are fuelling health alerts in dozens of provinces, with local councils urging residents to stay indoors, avoid midday activity, and check on vulnerable neighbours.
Farmers are reporting scorched crops, and fire brigades remain on high alert as parched land raises the risk of fast-moving wildfires.
