A backdoor botox clinic is under investigation after allegedly disfiguring multiple women on the Costa del Sol.
According to the Policia Nacional, the beauty salon was offering the anti-ageing injections without the required medical qualifications or licences.
The force said the victims, who have been left ‘traumatised’, were lured in by the low-cost prices of around €200 per session.
One officer told Diario Sur: ‘Instead of making them better, they made them worse. None of them were well, but one had to go to the emergency room.’
The women’s alleged complications as a result of the Botox injections included droopy eyelids, disfigured faces and eyes sealed shut due to the muscles being paralysed.
One 31-year-old woman has been arrested as part of the investigation.
The suspect, a Spanish woman of Moroccan descent, is believed to have been operating for three years.
Police said they have tracked down three victims but believe there could be more.
The beauty clinic arranged appointments by telephone and there was no information leaflet or medical consent forms for customers.
Clients arrived and were treated directly by the owner in a room at the beauty centre.
They told investigators they were not offered prior information or health guarantees before receiving the treatment.
The suspect, who also runs a beauty clinic in Morocco, claimed she was ‘in the process’ of obtaining the required certification.
In Spain, however, her licence only authorised her to offer hairdressing and manicure services, never medical procedures.
The judge released her on charges and awaiting trial, while she remains under investigation.
The clinic where she performed the treatments has been closed pending determination of its legal status.
