A red weather warning was issued in Spain overnight as a so-called DANA brought severe rainfall and hail storms.

The alert, issued by state weather agency Aemet, was activated for the region of Zaragoza, in the north east of the country.

Aemet said: ‘A stationary storm west of Zaragoza Airport has accumulated 100mm of rainfall in one hour.

Surrounding cities and provinces, including Barcelona and Tarragona, remain on an orange level warning for rain, storms and hail.

Videos shared online show roads turned into rivers in Zaragoza, while cars ‘took refuge’ as huge hail stones plummeted to the ground.

Other clips showed vehicles, tables and chairs being carried away by flash floods in Tarazona, a town in Zaragoza.
