A family’s home in Ibiza was left ‘destroyed’ following a devastating fire below their apartment block.

On June 10, a severe blaze take hold in two restaurants and a cannabis shop in Playa d’en Bossa.

A man and a woman believed to have started the inferno were later arrested and charged with arson.

The woman is said to have been asked to leave one of the restaurants on June 9. The suspect, who reportedly lives on the beach, returned with her male partner to set it on fire as an act of revenge.

The ensuing blaze completely gutted multiple businesses and damaged many of the apartments above.

One British expat said her friend’s home was destroyed inside, as she started a GoFundMe to help pay for some of the repairs.

Catherine Melhuish wrote: ‘My lovely friends Dan and Marie had their beautiful home destroyed by smoke damage after the huge fire in the restaurants below their apartment block in Playa d’en Bossa on Tuesday morning. This has been absolutely devastating for them and they were lucky to get out alive!

‘The insurance only covered the cost of a hotel for a few nights and they are now relying on the generosity of friends for places to stay whilst they wait for their apartment to be safe to live in again.

‘At the apartment there is no water supply and all the waste pipes have melted causing sewage to leak out under the block. Everything inside is covered in toxic black dust and the smell is unbearable.

‘They need to have their whole apartment professionally cleaned and painted plus replace all furnishings, kitchen and bathrooms. Both of them have had to take time off work and as Dan is self employed they are losing money every day.’

She continued: ‘The insurance money offered is minimal and everything needs to be paid for upfront before the claim can be processed.

‘I know a lot of their friends have been reaching out asking how they can help – please donate as the cash will help speed up the clean up operation and make up for the loss of income. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and relieve some of their stress and worry.

‘Let’s help get their life back to normal and make their home a safe and clean place for Dan, Marie, the kids and their little dog to live in again.’
