A British father is fighting for the chance to receive potentially life-saving treatment follow a shock stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
Paul McCaughey lives near Malaga with his wife Sam and their seven-year-old ‘miracle’ daughter Mabel, who took several rounds of fertility treatments and IVF to be born.
They also live with Paul’s parents, who joined them once Mabel was born.
But in 2022, tragedy struck when Paul sought medical attention for a sore throat that wouldn’t quit.

In a GoFundMe he explained: ‘After further tests, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma. The cancer had already spread, and our peaceful world was turned upside down.

‘Since then, I’ve undergone nearly 50 sessions of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other intense treatments. These were toxic and exhausting – but I kept going. I had to.
‘Two months ago, my doctors told me there was nothing more they could offer – and sent me home to let nature take its course. I was given four to six months to live.
‘Despite this, I’ve had no choice but to keep working full-time. I run a small business that still doesn’t fully support us, and the financial pressure has been immense. We’ve sold everything we could – including our car and most of our possessions – just to keep searching for a solution.
‘After months of soul-searching, I put my ego aside and made a decision: to ask for help. Not because I’ve given up – but because I’m not ready to stop fighting.’
Paul wants to raise enough funds to pay for life-extending therapies, with several options currently on the table.

They include Targeted Therapy (TACE), in Germany, which Paul explains ‘delivers chemotherapy directly into the tumor – like a sniper, not a shotgun. More precise, less toxic.’ The estimated cost is betwenn €12,000 and €47,000 depending on the number of sessions.
There are also cell-Based Immunotherapies such as TIL the US which cost between €62,000 and €350,000.
Among the therapies are CAR T-Cell therapies in Spain, US, India and China which genetically reprogramme T-cells to seek and destroy cancer cells.
