An appeal has been launched to find a British tourist who vanished from Tenerife more than three months ago.
James Sutherland’s last contact with his family was on February 15 of this year, while he was traveling alone on the Spanish holiday island.
His sister Sophie Sutherland, from Stevenage, but who now lives in Texas in the US, said in the appeal that the family are ‘extremely concerned for his safety.’
She wrote: ‘Our family and friends are deeply worried about my brother, James Sutherland, who has been missing since February 11, 2025.
‘While traveling alone in Tenerife, James made the sudden decision to cut off all communication with both family and friends.

‘James has a history of mental health challenges, and out of concern for his wellbeing, we reported him missing.
‘A few days later, local police were able to locate him, but he declined to share any contact information or reconnect with loved ones.’
She added: ‘The photo below is the last known image we have of James, taken on February 15. Since then, we have had no contact and no idea where he is, whether he remains in Tenerife, or what kind of vulnerable condition he may be in.
‘This behaviour is highly uncharacteristic of James, and we are extremely concerned for his safety.’
Sophie said the family ‘just want to know James is safe.’
