A British expat has launched a campaign to bring more defibrilators to Lanzarote following her husband’s sudden death.
Stuart Hodges passed away on March 18 while carrying out deliveries for the family’s business in Puerto del Carmen.
His wife Patricia Hodges said ‘his heart stopped’ and that ‘although tourists and police tried CPR it took over 45 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.’
She added: ‘Had a defibrillator been available with someone with knowledge and training to use on my husband he may still be alive today.’
Patricia said she and another expat want to install a series of defilibrators and training schemes.
She explained: ‘We have access to purchase defibrillators on the island and certified training for their use along with CPR and choking.
‘We want to be able to install one every 100/200 metres between the bars and restaurants and offer to pay for training for some staff that work in the establishments.
‘The training is legally certified and registered in Spain for three years. Each defibrillator costs €1,795 and training is €100 per person.
‘Unfortunately too many lives are being lost on our little island due to not having this available.
‘So I ask please help us to help others and so no one has to face to pain and sadness I am facing every day.’
Patricia’s GoFundMe has a goal of €30,000 and has already raised more than €6,000.
